Prediction and odds for the game: Dortmund (19/10) v PSG (6/5)
We are backing the over 3.5 goals scored at odds of 11/10
When: Tuesday 18th February 2020, kick-off 8 PM
Where: Signal Iduna Park
On Tuesday night, Dortmund host PSG at Signal Iduna Park, in the first leg of the round of 16 in the Champions League.
Dortmund
Lucien Favre’s team are one of the most entertaining teams in the whole of Europe. Last time out, BVB recorded a 4-0 home win over Eintracht Frankfurt, which means they have now scored at least two goals in their last six outings in all competitions.
A big factor to their effectiveness in front of goal of late has been the form of winger Jadon Sancho and Erling Haaland. Sancho has now scored 16 goals in all competitions, including two in the Champions League. Haaland has already scored nine goals for the home side in just six appearances in all competitions.
Dortmund have a rather patchy recent record in the Champions League, having won just three of their last eight matches in Europe’s elite competition. BVB are unbeaten in the competition on home soil this season, recording two wins a draw at Signal Iduna Park. BVB have suffered just one home defeat in their last seven matches in the Champions League.
PSG
Like their hosts, PSG are a team who thrive in the attacking third of the pitch. In fact, Thomas Tuchel’s team has scored at least two goals in their last eight matches in all competitions.
A thrilling 4-4 draw at Amiens on Saturday ended a run of nine straight wins for the visitors in all competitions. However, despite the draw PSG are still coasting to yet another Ligue One title, which will be their third straight French top-flight title.
Unlike Dortmund, PSG have a good recent record in the Champions League, as the French team has won eight of their last ten matches in Europe’s elite competition. The team from the French capital has also lost just one of their last 13 matches in the competition.
Whilst PSG are renowned for their attacking talent, it was their defensive solidity that saw them through the group stages of the competition, as the visitors kept clean sheets in five of their six group games.
PSG have been a tough nut to crack on their travels of late in the Champions League, as they are unbeaten in six away games in this competition. That record could face a stern test in Dortmund.
Conclusion
Although PSG are slight favourites to win this game and to progress, this match is a difficult one to judge. These two teams are just so potent going forward that this tie promises to be one of the highest-scoring in the last 16 of the Champions League.
Despite last-16 first-leg ties generally being tight affairs, we see this tie bucking the trend, which is why we are backing over 3.5 goals to be scored. We are also backing Jadon Sancho to be an anytime goalscorer, as the youngster is in sparkling goalscoring form.
Verdict: We are backing over 3.5 goals to be scored at odds of 11/10 and/or Jadon Sancho to be an anytime goalscorer at odds of 8/5. (All odds are taken from Bet365).
