Prediction and odds for the game: Chelsea (8/11) V Tottenham (7/2)

We are backing the draw at odds of 3/1

When: Saturday 22nd February 2020, Kick-off 12:30 PM

Where: Stamford Bridge

In the Premier League’s early kick-off on Saturday, London rivals Chelsea and Tottenham clash in a game that could have massive implications on the race for the Champions League places this season.

Chelsea

The Blues have occupied a place in the Premier League’s top-four for much of the Premier League campaign. However, Frank Lampard’s side now looks highly vulnerable to dropping out of the top-four spots, as they are now just a point clear of Saturday’s opponents Tottenham and just two ahead of sixth-place Manchester United.

A 2-0 home reverse against United last time out means that the Blues have now failed to win any of their last four league games. The defeat against the Red Devils was also their third straight Premier League game in which Lampard’s team had conceded two goals. The Blues have also kept just one clean sheet in eight top-flight outings.

Chelsea have been poor at Stamford Bridge in the Premier League, winning just two of their last seven matches. They have also lost three of their last five league matches on home soil.

Tottenham

The visitor’s recent revival was rather curtailed by 1-0 midweek Champions League defeat by German team RB Leipzig. Prior to the defeat by Julian Nagelsmann’s team, Spurs had recorded three straight wins in all competitions. The team from north London are still undefeated in four Premier League games after victories over Norwich, Manchester City and Aston Villa in the top-flight.

The visitors had also scored at least two goals in each of those three straight victories. Unfortunately for Jose Mourinho’s team, they will now be without the services of forward South Korean Heung-Min Son, who joins captain Harry Kane on the sidelines through injury. It is difficult to see who will be the focal point of Tottenham’s attack. Brazilian forward Lucas Moura is likely to be the designated central striker for the team from north London.

Tottenham’s away form has been poor since last season, as Spurs have won just once in 19 matches on their travels in the Premier League. The win over Villa ended a three-game winless run on their travels in the top-flight for Spurs.

Spurs recent away matches in the Premier League have provided good entertainment value, with over 2.5 goals scored in five of their last seven away matches. However, they have failed to score in two of their last three away games in the Premier League.

Conclusion

Tottenham are in the better form of the two heading into potentially vital London derby. However, Jose Mourinho’s team are unconvincing on their travels, coupled with Chelsea’s inconsistent record leads us to back the draw in this clash. We are also backing the under 2.5 goals, as Chelsea have not exactly been prolific of late, while Spurs don’t have a fit central striker.

Verdict: Back the draw at odds of 3/1 and/or under 2.5 goals scored at evens (All odds are taken from Bet365)
