Prediction and odds for the game: Perth Glory (8/15) v Western United (5/1)

We are backing the draw at odds of 10/3

When: Monday, 23rd March 2020, Kick-off 10:30

Where: HBF Park

On Monday morning, Perth Glory and Western United face-off at HBF Park, in a game that could be crucial in the fight for a top-six spot in the A-League.

Perth Glory

The home side’s form in the A-League has dipped in recent weeks, as they have failed to claim a victory in four league games. The poor form means they are still in the play-off spots but are now just four points clear of Adelaide United in seventh place.

In their last league outing, they picked up a creditable draw against league leaders Sydney FC. The game saw Perth keep a clean sheet for the first time in six A-League matches. Four of their previous five league games had also produced over 2.5 goals.

Toni Popovic’s team have been tough opponents on their own patch in recent weeks in the A-League, as they have claimed victories in four of their last six matches at HBF Park.

One of the reasons for Perth’s recent relatively strong form home form has been their efforts in front of goal, as they have scored at least twice in their last six league matches on home soil. Seven of their last eight home matches in the A-League have also produced over 2.5 goals.

Western United

The visitors have moved into the top-six in recent weeks after two straight league wins, including a 5-1 defeat of Adelaide United on their own patch in their last league outing. The victories were much-needed for Western, who had lost three of four of their previous league outings before the pair of wins.

Western United’s place in the final series play-offs is anything, but secure, as Adelaide United are level on points with the visitors. The result in the last meeting put the visitors ahead in the head-to-head.

Mark Rudan’s team has not been great on their travels if late in the A-League. A record of one away win in their last five league matches on their travels is certainly nothing to shout about. However, that one victory could prove to be vital, as it was the victory over top-six rivals Adelaide in their last league outing. Their recent away matches in the A-League have been relatively low-scoring, with under 2.5 goals scored in six of their last nine matches.

Conclusion

Perth Glory are a tough team to beat on home soil. However, the visitors will be confident mood heading into this clash. We can see this finishing in a high-scoring and entertaining draw. Therefore, we are backing the over 2.5 goals, as well as the game to finish all-square.

Verdict: We are backing the draw at odds of 10/3 and/or over 2.5 goals scored at odds of 4/6. (All odds are taken from Bet365).
