On Wednesday night, Manchester City and Arsenal go head-to-head at the Etihad Stadium, in one of the first Premier League games after the enforced break.
Manchester City
The reigning champions have failed to find the same consistency this season as they have in recent campaigns. Their relatively inconsistent displays have led to Pep Guardiola’s team falling 25 points behind league leaders Liverpool. Although the title now appears to be gone, the Citizens will still want to maintain momentum this season, as they are still in the Champions League too.
City’s recent results have not been great in the top-flight. A 2-0 defeat at arch-rivals Manchester United last time out in the Premier League means that they have won two and lost two of their last four top-flight matches.
However, it has been on their travels that the Citizens have struggled to pick up results. Their league form at the Etihad Stadium has been much more positive, as they are undefeated in five games on home soil, having claimed four victories. As is now the custom with City on home soil, they have also been highly prolific of late, scoring at least two goals in each of those undefeated home matches.
Arsenal
The visitors have experienced a mixed campaign so far. However, things seem to be looking up after the arrival of Mikel Arteta as head coach. The Spaniard will be making his first return to the Etihad Stadium since his departure in December.
Results have certainly been looking up of late for the Gunners, as the visitors head into this potential daunting clash on the back of an eight-game undefeated run. Arteta’s team have also won their last three league matches against Newcastle, Everton and last time out West Ham.
The recent good run of form has put the team from north London right back in the race for the top-six and a spot in the Europa League. However, the Champions League berths look out of reach, as fourth-place Chelsea are eight points ahead of their capital rivals.
Arsenal’s recent away record a strange one, as the Gunners have claimed just one win in their previous 12 Premier League matches on their travels. However, they have not lost in their seven matches on the road, although they have drawn their last five matches away from home.
The recent history of this fixture does not bode well for Arsenal, as the Gunners have suffered defeat in the last six competitive meetings with the English champions.
Conclusion
The title race may be all but over for Manchester City, but boss Guardiola will not allow complacency. We believe that City will come out on top. However, their odds offer little value. Instead, we are going into the goal’s markets for our recommendations.
The first one we recommend is Raheem Sterling as an anything scorer. The England international has not enjoyed the best of seasons. However, the break may well have recharged his batteries and we fancy him to find the net. We are also backing both teams to score, as these two teams are better going forward than defending.
