When: Saturday, 11th July 2020, Kick-off 12:30
Where: Carrow Road
On Saturday afternoon, Norwich and West Ham go head-to-head in the Premier League, in a game that could have big ramifications in the fight for top-flight survival.
Norwich
The Canaries have looked destined for a quick return to the Championship for some time now. Daniel Farke’s team are ten points from safety and could officially suffer relegation this weekend if results go against them.
The home team has won just once in their last 11 top-flight games. A 2-1 defeat at fellow strugglers Watford last time out was their sixth straight defeat in the Premier League.
A lack of goals has hindered Norwich’s survival chances, as they are by far the lowest scorers in the Premier League this season. That bluntness in front of goal has been perfectly illustrated in their recent league outings, as they have scored just once in their previous six matches in the English top-flight.
Their recent home record reads like a sob story, as the Canaries have suffered defeat in four of their previous five league matches in the English top-flight. The team from Norfolk have also failed to score in any of those defeats.
West Ham
The Hammers head into this game on the back of a poor 1-0 home defeat by in-form Burnley. The defeat means that David Moyes team have won just two of their previous 14 league matches. They have also lost four of their last six matches in the English top-flight.
The recent poor form has left the Irons four points clear of the relegation zone. However, Aston Villa and Bournemouth, who are in the bottom three have games in-hand, so both could cut the gap to just one point with victories later today.
The Hammers have proven highly leaky in defence of late in the English top-flight, conceding at least two goals in nine of their last 12 games in the Premier League. The defensive problems with the Hammers are surprising, as head coach David Moyes is known as a defensive coach.
To say that West Ham do not travel well would be a massive understatement, as the Hammers have failed to win any of their last eight league matches on their travels. A 2-2 draw at Newcastle last time out at least ended a seven-game losing streak on the road for the visitors. Defensive issues have again been at the heart of the Irons away day blues, as they have conceded at least two goals in five of their last six league matches away from home.
Conclusion
If we could back both teams to lose, we would be backing that. However, we can’t unfortunately. That is why we are backing a draw, as Norwich are generally poor and West Ham couldn’t buy an away win. We are also backing under 2.5 goals scored, as although both teams are poor at the back, they are also not very good in attack.
Verdict: We are backing the draw at odds of 13/5 and/or under 2.5 goals scored at evens (All odds are taken from Bet365).
