Sevilla will attempt to continue their phenomenal legacy in the UEFA Europa League when they meet Inter Milan in the 2020 final on Friday night.
Sevilla
After an incredible late season surge, Sevilla find themselves in yet another UEFA Europa League Final as they push to extend their record as the most successful team in the competition’s history. They’ve put together a squad that is capable of going toe to toe with quite literally every other top club in Europe, and it’ll be interesting to see how they fare in the UCL next season. For now, though, the focus needs to be on keeping their structure and frustrating Inter from the word go.
The knockout stages of the Europa began in a pretty tense manner for Sevilla as they were held to a 1-1 draw in the first leg of their Round of 32 tie against CFR Cluj. Thankfully for them, they were just about able to hold onto a 0-0 draw against 10-man Cluj in the second leg to progress. From that point on, though, they looked unstoppable, securing three narrow wins over Roma, Wolverhampton Wanderers and Manchester United.
Inter Milan
Inter Milan are starting to be known as legitimate contenders in Italian football once again, and you’d have to imagine that trend will continue regardless of whether or not they win the trophy. They’ve been able to assemble one hell of a squad, with the likes of Romelu Lukaku and Christian Eriksen serving as the catalysts behind this run to the final. They’ve already secured Champions League football next season, but this game is all about adding another trophy to their cabinet.
The Round of 32 tie against Ludogorets probably should’ve never been in doubt given the perceived gulf in quality between the two sides, but after winning the first leg 2-0, they were forced to work for it in the second leg as they came out narrow 2-1 winners. They then put in a strong effort to get past Getafe in the Round of 16 and battled to a dramatic 2-1 win over Bayer Leverkusen, but in the semis, they proved why they’re the favourites after dismantling Shakhtar Donetsk 5-0.
Conclusion
This is going to be an incredibly fascinating game of football, if only because of the contrast we have between both clubs. Inter are going to go straight for Sevilla and attempt to impose themselves on the game early on, whereas the Spaniards will try and play the same system that worked so well for them in the last few rounds. We think there’s a chance this one could go to extra time, but even if it does, we’re predicting Inter Milan to be the ones who come away as the Europa League winners for the 2019/20 season.
Our score prediction is going to be 2-1, so naturally, we’re backing the over 2.5 goals market.
