On Monday night, Wolves host Manchester City at Molineux, as the visitors to get their Premier League title challenge off to a winning start.

The home side made a good start to their Premier League campaign by recording a 2-0 win at Sheffield United last weekend. However, they followed up the win by suffering a 1-0 home defeat against Stoke in midweek in the second round of the Carabao Cup. Head coach Nuno Santo Espirito decided to rotate his squad for the League Cup defeat, which somewhat explains the disappointing result.
The team from the Midlands will head into this potentially difficult clash on the back of the sale of Portuguese forward Diogo Jota to Liverpool. Moving in the opposite direction in a separate deal will be highly-rated Dutch centre-back Ki-Jana Hoever.
Wolves have a strong recent home record in the Premier League, having recorded four wins in their previous six outings in the English top-flight while suffering just one defeat. The fact that the home side has kept six clean sheets in their last seven matches on Molineux has been a big factor in those good results.
A big positive for Wolves heading into this clash is that they beat Manchester City home and away last season. They have become something of a bogey team for the Citizens.
Manchester City
Pep Guardiola’s team have yet to kick-off their Premier League campaign due to their involvement in the latter stages of the Champions League. This certainly not an easy match to start their campaign win the English top-flight.
One big plus for City towards the end of last season despite losing their top-flight crown was that they finished the campaign with a five-game winning run, in which they scored at least two goals in each victory. The mem from Manchester also kept four clean sheets in those five victories, which was a major positive for a team that had conceded far too many goals earlier in the campaign.
City won their last two away games of the Premier League campaign 5-0 at Brighton and 4-0 at Watford. However, the Citizens had suffered three straight away defeats in the English top-flight, before the victories.
The visitors will be without Argentinian forward Sergio Aguero due to injury, so Gabriel Jesus is likely to continue upfront. Nathan Ake and Ferran Torres will both be looking to make their Premier League debuts for Guardiola’s team.
Conclusion
Wolves have been difficult opponents for Manchester City in recent seasons. We expect that to continue to be the case in this clash. Therefore we are backing the draw. The other bet is a bit of a punt from us and is under 2.5 goals. The home side tends to be defensive and City’s defence improved immensely towards the end of last season.
