A new year brings another set of Premier League fixtures and we enter gameweek 17 of FPL. Gameweek 16 was problematic for many due to the postponements of two games due to COVID-19. However, two of our four picks still picked up points with terrible luck preventing the other two from having a chance. Here are our gameweek 17 picks:
Ben Mee (Burnley, £4.9M)
Unfortunately for us, one of our picks from gameweek 16 was Mee’s teammate Charlie Taylor, who picked up an injury just eight minutes into the Clarets 1-0 win over Sheffield United. However, Mee picked up points at both ends of the field, as he added a goal to the clean kept in the clash.
The centre-back has had a habit of popping up and scoring goals, but its Sean Dyche’s team return defensive solidity of late that makes Mee a good pick up. When he partners James Tarkowski in the centre of Burnley defence, the team from the north west are hard to break down. In fact, since Mee’s return from injury, the Clarets have kept five clean sheets in nine league outings. A home game against Fulham in gameweek looks to be a good chance for more points.
Gabriel Martinelli (Arsenal, £4.9M)
In the last gameweek, we choose Bukayo Saka as one of our picks, as we saw that Arsenal looked much brighter with their talented youngsters in attacking positions. Saka produced an assist and will continue to be decent value for FPL bosses.
However, Martinelli is one of those Gunners youngsters who has impressed of late. The Brazilian has now started Arsenal’s last two games after recovering from injury. Sooner or later he is going to return an attacking haul. With Mikel Arteta’s team facing struggling West Brom this weekend, it may well be Martinelli’s time to shine.
Wilfried Zaha (Crystal Palace, £7.4m)
The Ivory Coast international is a player who tends to score in bunches. In fact, Zaha has now scored three times in his last six matches for the Eagles. Only Mohamed Salah and Aston Villa’s Anwar El Ghazi have scored more goals in that period from midfield.
In gameweek 17, Zaha comes up against bottom of the table Sheffield United, who have had major trouble keeping clean sheets of late in the top-flight. The Blades are looking worse by the week and the winger can take advantage.
Do you fancy Zaha to get on the scoresheet and want to place? Well, why not visit our betting page for the bookmakers we recommend for your wager.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin (Everton, £7.9m)
For our gameweek picks we usually choose differential players or players we feel offer value for money. Therefore, it seems strange to select one of the most popular assets in the game. The thing is that people have started losing faith in the young Toffees striker after a run of four games without a goal. By his early-season standards that is a drought.
However, we are advising to keep the faith with Dom, as despite not scoring he has produced three assists in his last four league matches. The return to the team of Richarlison for Friday evening’s home game against West Ham will add to the Merseysider’s attacking threat.
Coupled with a few days rest against a likely tired Hammers team, we think that Calvert-Lewin looks to be a great pick for gameweek 17.
