This season’s Premier League continues to take us in a million and one different directions, and while there is always going to be a great sense of intrigue behind that, it isn’t always going to lead to the most stable predictions on what’s going to happen between now and the end of the campaign.
One trend that we’ve seen emerge is the rise of non-big six clubs who, courtesy of hard work and determination, are well and truly in the hunt for a place in that top six spot. While you can bet on which of them will succeed through the betting page, we’re going to spend our time figuring out who has the best chance at this moment in time.
Leicester – 3rd
Even though they’ve had moments of real inconsistency, Leicester City’s ability to grind out wins means that the big six may have to be turned into the big seven as a result of their continued presence in that region. Many supporters were concerned that their Premier League title win a few years back was going to be a one-off, but if they can maintain this core group of players, there’s no reason to believe they can’t keep riding this wave of momentum for many years to come.
West Ham – 6th
Out of nowhere, West Ham United have emerged as a real force to be reckoned with under the revived David Moyes. They’ve been able to string together a collection of players who probably shouldn’t work as a unit, and yet, they really do. Very few other clubs around them are looking quite as confident and that can only mean good things for them moving forward, regardless of whether or not they actually do end up qualifying for one of the European competitions.
Everton – 7th
Two words: Carlo Ancelotti. That man has instilled a belief in this Everton team that otherwise couldn’t be found and because of that, they’re the kind of side who can never be written off – right up until the final whistle blows. The Toffees still have a few identity problems to worry about but they’re starting to fly under the radar, and with some suggesting a top eight finish would be viewed as progress, you’d have to think they will quietly be aiming for much higher than that.
Aston Villa – 9th
If Aston Villa win their two games in hand they could be in the top four and even though a lot would have to go their way for it to happen, it’s still a really hopeful sign for a team that were close to being relegated back down into the Championship just a few short months ago. Dean Smith has done wonders with this side, and now, they go into every game with the belief and confidence that they can beat just about anyone. After all, they do have the likes of Grealish and Watkins at their disposal.
Prediction: Leicester and Everton will finish in the top six of the Premier League this season
