Prediction and odds for the game: Liverpool (6/5) vs Chelsea (21/10)
We are backing the draw at odds of 13/5
When: Thursday, 4th March 2021, Kick-off 20:15
Where: Anfield
Two teams hoping to enhance their chances of a top-four finish in the Premier League meet on Thursday night, as Liverpool host Chelsea at Anfield.
Liverpool
It would be a massive understatement to say that Liverpool are not living up to their standards of the last few seasons. Instead of challenging to retain their Premier League crown, they are now in a bitter battle for a Champions League spot.
A 2-0 win at already doomed Sheffield United last time out brought massive relief, as it ended a run of four consecutive defeats in the English top-flight. Jurgen Klopp’s teams recent poor run of form has them in sixth place, two points adrift of West Ham who are in the last Champions League berth.
However, arch-rivals Everton are also level on points with the Reds, while the fifth-place visitors are a point ahead of the Merseyside pair. It is fair to say things are tight and the race for the top-four seems wide open.
One of the biggest disappointments for Liverpool in recent weeks has been their usually formidable home form dropping like a stone. The Reds have now failed to win in six league outings in the Premier League. To make matters worse, they have also suffered four straight top-flight defeats at Anfield.
Chelsea
The arrival of Thomas Tuchel has lifted the Blues performances and the visitors now look like genuine contenders for a top-four finish in the English top-flight this season. The German head coach is unbeaten in his seven Premier League games in charge. The former PSG boss seems to have instilled a sense of solidity in the visitors, as they have managed five clean sheets in seven league matches.
However, Chelsea may well be slightly disappointed that they have drawn their previous two matches in the English top-flight, especially their 1-1 draw at out of form Southampton. A goalless draw against second-place Manchester United has to be regarded as a respectable result considering where the Red Devils are in the table.
Chelsea have been slightly inconsistent on their travels of late in the top-flight, as the Blues have won just three of their last eight away games in the Premier League. However, all three of those wins have been in their last five away matches.
Conclusion
Liverpool have not been great of late, especially at Anfield. However, the win last time out will lift spirits. Chelsea have been difficult to beat under Tuchel and we are backing the Blues to take home a point from their trip to Merseyside. The other bet we recommend is under 2.5 goals, as the home side are struggling in front of goal on home soil, while the visitors have been relatively solid in defence.
Verdict: We are backing the draw at odds of 13/5 and/or under 2.5 goals scored at evens (All odds are taken from Bet365).
