While we may be in the midst of the international break, there are still a whole lot of questions about what’s going to happen in the final stretch of the Premier League campaign. There’s a whole lot to be determined up and down the league, and you’ll be able to bet on it through the betting page in the weeks to come. Still, while some things may be quite predictable, there are other features of the next few months that we’re left to feel pretty confused about.
Today, we’re going to try – as best as we can – to predict what exactly is going to happen in the main four components of the Premier League between now and May.
Title race
Manchester City are the champions-elect and there’s just no way of getting around that. Unless they have a COVID-19 outbreak or a whole host of players just suddenly experience a drop in form, we don’t think it’s actually possible for anyone to catch them. They’re so exciting to watch and they just seem to be so composed in pretty much every area of the pitch. This is one of the first steps on the road to, in the eyes of many, what could be a very realistic quadruple.
Prediction: Manchester City
Top four
Leicester City seem to have a bit more of a stomach for the fight this time around and that’s going to bode well for them, to the point where we’d be surprised if they don’t finish in the top four. Manchester United also have a good foundation to build on, and then when we get to fourth, it gets a bit more complicated. Liverpool have had time to readjust and think about what’s gone wrong for them so far this season and because of that, we think they’ll come out like a house on fire and pinch 4th away from Chelsea.
Prediction: Leicester, Manchester United, Liverpool
Top six
The aforementioned Blues would be disappointed to slip down into fifth place but we do think that’s probably where they’re heading, if only because we think Thomas Tuchel’s style is going to eventually catch up with them. Then, we’ve got Tottenham Hotspur, who we think will be desperate to finish at least sixth – if only to save Jose Mourinho’s job. West Ham and Everton have fought valiantly but we’re not convinced they can keep it up.
Prediction: Chelsea, Tottenham
Relegation battle
Brighton and Newcastle are both desperately trying to avoid being dragged into the relegation mix by Fulham who, in their own right, are putting up quite the fight. Unfortunately for the Cottagers we just think they’re going to run out of steam, and Newcastle will be the ones who survive – despite the fact that a club of their stature shouldn’t anywhere near this kind of position. Oh well, that’s what happens when Mike Ashley is trying to bleed the club dry whilst Steve Bruce props up as manager even though he’s way past his prime.
Prediction: Fulham, West Brom, Sheffield United
