Prediction and odds for the game: Liverpool (2/1) vs Manchester City 20/13
We are backing the draw at odds of 13/5
When: Sunday 3 October 2021, Kick-off 16:30
Where: Anfield
In what could be an early pivotal game in the Premier League, potential title rivals Liverpool and Manchester City go head-to-head at Anfield.
Liverpool
The Merseysider’s have made a promising start to their Premier League campaign and currently sit atop of the Premier League table. However, five teams are just a point behind Jurgen Klopp’s team, including Sunday’s opponents.
The Reds have won four and drawn two of their six matches bin the English top-flight this season. A thrilling 3-3 draw at Brentford last time out made the home side undefeated in 16 matches in the Premier League.
Liverpool have been prolific for most of the Klopp era as head coach and their recent attacking record is impressive, as the Merseysider’s have scored 2 or more goals in ten of their last 11 games in the English top-flight.
The Reds home form has also improved of late after a woeful spell at Anfield early in 2021. They are now unbeaten on home soil in seven home games in the league, while keeping clean sheets in four of their last five league outings on home soil.
Manchester City
The Citizens head into this clash on the back of a 2-0 defeat at French team PSG in the Champions League. The defeat ended a seven-game unbeaten in all competitions for Pep Guardiola’s team, who have certainly not always been at their best this season.
The men from Manchester are still undefeated in five top-flight, having recorded four wins. The main reason for City’s recent good results in the Premier League has been their rock-solid defence, as the visitors have not conceded in their last five matches in the English top-flight. At the other end of the pitch, City have scored just two goals in their previous three league outings.
Manchester City have won their last two games on their travels in the Premier League while winning 14 of their last 16 away matches in the league. That strong away run includes a 4-1 victory at Anfield last season. The Citizens have also scored at least two goals in six of their last nine away games in the Premier League. However, on the flip-side, they have scored just two goals in their previous three away matches in the top-flight.
Conclusion
This clash will be a test of both team’s title credentials, as the last two Premier League champions go head-to-head. Liverpool have been relatively strong in top-flight, but as Brentford showed the Reds still have weaknesses. City will need to up their game on Merseyside, though. We are backing the game to finish in a draw. We are also backing Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah to be an anytime goalscorer, as the Egyptian international has started the season in good form.
Our Tips: We are backing the draw at odds of 13/5 and/or Mohamed Salah to be an anytime goalscorer at odds of 33/20. (All odds are taken from Bet365).
