Prediction and odds for the game: Watford (4/1) vs Tottenham (8/13)
We are backing Heung-Min son to be an anytime goalscorer at odds of 6/4
When: Saturday 1 January 2022, kick-off 15:00
Where: Vicarage Road
On Saturday afternoon, Watford and Tottenham go head-to-head at Vicarage Road, in a Premier League clash that could be crucial at both ends of the table.
Watford
The Hornets are in the perilous position of 17th place in the Premier League table, just two points ahead of 18th place Burnley, having played a game more than the Clarets. Any sort of result in this clash would be a massive boost for Claudio Ranieri’s team.
Unfortunately for the home side, results have been hard to come by in recent months, as they have lost seven of their last eight matches in the English top-flight. That run includes five straight league defeats.
The biggest factor in those recent defeats has been woeful defensive displays, as the Hornets have conceded at least two goals in all five of their recent league defeats. Only three teams have conceded more goals than the home side in the Premier League.
Watford have a poor recent home record, winning just one of their last eight matches in the English top-flight while suffering six defeats in the process.
Tottenham
Spurs have put themselves in a strong position to challenge for the Champions League spots in the Premier League since the appointment of Antonio Conte as head coach. The team from north London are unbeaten in seven league games under the former Chelsea boss.
A 1-1 draw at ten-man Southampton was a slightly disappointing result, as the Saints had centre-back Mohammed Salisu sent off in the first half. The draw coupled with other results means that Tottenham are seventh-place in the table, five points behind fourth-place arch-rivals Arsenal, with two games in hand on the Gunners.
Tottenham have been underwhelming on travels of late in the Premier League, winning just one of their last six away matches in the English top-flight. They have now drawn their last two away games in the Premier League at Everton and Southampton.
Spurs have a mixed recent record against Watford, as they have lost just two of the last 20 meetings with the Hornets. They have also suffered just one defeat in their last ten visits to Vicarage Road in all competitions.
Conclusion
Watford are conceding goals for fun at the moment and Tottenham’s forward line looks ready to return to top form. The away win offers very little value when it comes to bets. Instead, we are backing over 3.5 goals scored, as we believe this could be a high-scoring encounter. The other bet we are backing is Heung Min-Son to be an anytime goalscorer, as the South Korean international has been in good scoring form of late.
Our Tips: We are backing Heung Min-Son to be an anytime goalscorer at odds of 6/4 and/or over 3.5 goals scored at odds of 7/4. (All odds are taken from Bet365).
