FPL goalkeepers to watch in season 2022/23
|

The official Premier League Fantasy football launched on Tuesday. At the time of writing, 589,114 have already signed up for the ecstasy and often agony of the world’s favourite fantasy football game.

In the past, we have written weekly FPL articles. However, due to a schedule conflict, we have been unable to bring you those articles. In the future, we will publish FPL articles on an occasional basis. Here is our first of a short series looking at players to watch, starting with goalkeepers:

David Raya (Brentford, £4.5m)

The Bees goalkeeper is a popular budget pick, as he arguably looks the most reliable of the £4.5m goalkeepers in the game. Although he may not keep many clean sheets (eight last season), he does pick up a lot of saves points, producing 78 saves last season.

His numbers may not be great. However, as budget picks, go he is a perfect option to have. After a visit to Leicester on the opening day, Brentford doesn’t have a game harder than three on the FDR also makes Raya appealing.

Eduardo Mendy (Chelsea, £5m)

The Senegalese international looks like a bargain price for a number one goalkeeper at one of the best teams in the league. He is a set-and-forget option for sure for some.

However, his value may be slightly offset by the fact that Chelsea has lost both Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen. That means the Blues may not be as solid as they have previously under Thomas Tuchel. If the Blues bring in quality defenders, then Mendy as your season-long goalkeeper could offer fantastic value.

Jordan Pickford (Everton, £4.5m)

The England international is another goalkeeper that falls into that ‘budget’ category with a value of £4.5m. The Toffees were disastrous in defence at times last season.

However, Pickford performed major heroics, and without his saves, Frank Lampard’s team may have suffered relegation. The arrival of centre-back James Tarkowski should improve Everton defensively. The former Sunderland shot-stopper could prove to be a bargain if Lampard can straighten out his team’s defence.

Dean Henderson (Nottingham Forest, £4.5m)

Another England international, Henderson, made a temporary loan move to Forest from Manchester United in order to gain first-team football. The move could work out well for both player and his new temporary home. Henderson struggled for first-team football last season at United, failing to make a single Premier League appearance for the Red Devils.

However, the goalkeeper has a history of being a very handy FPL asset during a two-season loan spell at Sheffield United. In season 2019/20, Henderson kept 13 clean sheets for the Blades while also picking up a rare assist to his points tally.

Add into the fact that Forest had the second-best defensive record in the Championship last season, and the 25-year-old could once again become a very useful enabler for spending cash in other positions.

Do you wish to place a bet on any of the above team’s fortunes for next season and are looking for a bookmaker? Well, be sure to visit our betting page for the bookmakers we recommend for your bet.

Will any of our four selections be in your FPL team for gameweek one?
