Manchester City defender Aymeric Laporte is set to turn down the chance to join Tottenham Hotspur in favor of a transfer elsewhere.
The Spanish center-back joined Manchester City from Athletic Bilbao in 2018 and has gone on to become one of the Premier League’s most consistent defenders.
Laporte, during his five years with the Citizens, has lifted 11 major trophies, including four Premier League titles.
However, after falling out of favor with manager Pep Guardiola this season, with the former Barcelona manager preferring Manuel sAkanji and Ruben Dias, Laporte’s long-term future at the Etihad has come under threat.
Linked with a surprise move to Tottenham Hotspur, who are in desperate need of defensive reinforcements, the Spain international could become one of the Londoners’ top summer targets.
Irrespective of this though, according to British journalist Dean Jones, a move from Manchester to London for Laporte seems very unlikely.
“We’ve reported before that Laporte is likely to be one of the exits if they’re going to happen,” Jones told GiveMeSport.
“I would question whether he would go to Tottenham.
“I‘m not sure that that’s the sort of move Laporte has on his agenda if he’s going to actually look to leave Manchester City though.
“From everything I’ve heard, he would be looking to move abroad and wouldn’t actually be looking to stay in the Premier League. So I’m not so sure about Tottenham as a landing spot.”
