Prediction and odds for the game: Roma (9/4) v Juventus (6/5)
We are backing the away victory
When: Sunday 12th January 2020, kick-off 7:45 PM
Where: The Stadio Olimpico
On Sunday night, Roma host reigning Italian champions Juventus at the Stadio Olimpico, in one of the biggest games of the weekend in Italy’s Serie A.
Roma
The Giallorossi currently occupy the last Champions League spot in Serie A. However, they have fifth-place Atalanta breathing down their necks, just a point behind them. Despite their lofty position in the table, Roma are ten points behind league leaders Juventus.
A shock 2-0 defeat against Torino in their league outing at Torino last time out in Serie A ended a run of four wins and a draw for Paulo Fonseca’s team. This game is a difficult one for them to get back into winning ways in.
The home side has been potent in front of goal of late in the Italian top-flight, scoring at least twice in seven of their last ten league outings. Veteran Bosnian striker Edin Dzeko has played a big role in their recent attacking threat, as he has scored seven league goals for the Giallorossi.
Roma have a decent recent record on home soil in Serie A, winning in four of their previous five league matches at the Olimpico. A fifth win in six home games would be a big achievement.
Juventus
The reigning champions are currently in a major battle with Inter for the Serie A title. Both teams are locked on 40 points and neither can afford to drop points in fear of their rivals capitalising on the slip-up.
A 4-0 victory over Cagliari in their opening game of 2020 in Serie A means that Maurizio Sarri side has recorded three straight league wins, scoring at least twice in all three of the victories. Portuguese superstar Cristiano Ronaldo scored a hat-trick last time out to take his goal tally for the season in Serie A to 13 in just 15 appearances.
Despite being top of the table, Juventus do not have the best defence or attack in the Italian top-flight, which suggests that the team from Turin are not as dominant this season as they have been in recent campaigns.
The visitors do have a decent recent away record, winning three of their last four matches on their travels in Serie A. They have also suffered just one defeat in their last nine away games in the Italian top-flight.
Conclusion
Roma had a fine home record in Serie A until the Torino game, so they are unlikely to be easy opponents for the visitors. However, Juventus have developed a knack of negotiating these tricky games in recent seasons and pulling off wins. Therefore, we are backing the away win. We are also backing the over 2.5 goals, with Roma potent at the Olimpico and Juventus now looking dangerous in front of goal.
Verdict: We are backing the away win at odds of 6/5 and or the over 2.5 goals scored at odds of 8/11. (All odds are taken from Bet 365).
