Prediction & odds for the game: Southampton (21/20) v Crystal Palace (12/5) – ST is backing the home win
When: Tuesday, 11th May @ 8.15pm K.O
Where: St Mary’s Stadium
Southampton and Crystal Palace will hope to end their season on a high when they meet in the Premier League on Tuesday.
Southampton
Ralph Hasenhuttl will be the first man to admit that this season has somewhat fallen off the edge of a cliff, but where there’s a will, there’s a way. Southampton still have the same squad and same determination that they did back at the start of the campaign and the hope, from their point of view anyway, is that they can find more consistency next season – with a strong summer transfer window, that is.
After losses to West Brom, Leicester and Tottenham, the Saints managed to somewhat claw back some respect with a nice 1-1 draw against the Foxes to round off the month of April. They went on to meet Liverpool over the weekend in a pretty tense and tight affair, but unfortunately for them, they came up on the wrong end of a 2-0 defeat.
Crystal Palace
The Roy Hodgson express seems to be coming to its final stop and while there’s no guarantee whatsoever he’ll retire from management altogether, it does feel like his tenure at Selhurst Park is going to come to an end. If that’s the case then it’s been a decent enough stint for him at Crystal Palace but if you ask the majority of fans, they’ll all say that they’re ready for a brand new challenge – regardless of what that challenge may look like.
A draw against Everton seemed to be the last positive result Palace could expect this season after three defeats on the trot to Chelsea, Leicester and Manchester City, where they conceded eight goals across the three games. They proceeded to take on Sheffield United, though, earning themselves a rare Premier League victory.
Conclusion
We don’t think this is going to be a particularly entertaining game with neither side having a whole lot left to fight for. If this was the last game of the season we could probably picture a scenario in which we get goals galore, but that isn’t the vibe we’re getting from either the Saints or the Eagles. We do think Southampton have a slight edge, which is why we’re backing them to come away with a narrow win.
Our official scoreline prediction is 1-0 Southampton, ensuring we stick to the under 2.5 goals bracket – but we’d like to think a few fringe players will use this as a real opportunity to prove themselves on the big stage.
Verdict: Back the home win at odds of 21/20 and the under 2.5 goals scored at odds of 10/11 (All odds are taken from bet365).
